Mimo The Artist
I am an Unconventional artist, that creates art using various mediums. I eat, sleep and breathe Art. It's what I was born to do. I have been creating art in some form or another since 1997. Each year I am evolving both as a person and an artist.
As an artist, I have a great appreciation for all styles of art. That said, I don't want to label myself as a Realist, a Surrealist, an Expressionist or an Abstract artist because, I like to create in whatever style I want and "break the rules". I like change and creating art in different styles. At times I want to create something very realistic and sometimes I don't want to recognize anything at all.
If I had to place myself in one category I would have to say that I would be labeled as an Unconventionalist. That is why my art may jump from an expressionistic style to a more realistic style from piece to piece.
The bottom line is what you see when you view my art, is 100% me! When you see my art I want you to feel vulnerable and learn something new about yourself. I want you to create your own story and make the piece your own.
I am a New England based artist who works in many mediums. I am a dreamer and love exploring imagination and developing wild illustrations to accompany funny stories.
As an artist, blending my illustrations with funny stories for children and adults, allows me to bring my ideas to life for more people to enjoy. A children's book artist first, the images and characters come to me before the words do at times, and as a children's book author, it can take me longer to piece the words together to find the perfect narrative like a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.
I love to laugh and intentionally create silly and funny kids' books. I enjoy putting smiles on peoples' faces.
My first kid's book is a starfish story called Addison's Starfish Adventure. I created it using pen and ink drawings and then watercolored them before adding the words.
My second kid's book is called Pink. There's a lot of fun pink colored animals in the book that children and adults enjoy. I used a similar process of pen and ink art along with watercolor paint. With this book, I took it a step further and created a fun coloring book for kids. It's filled with all the wild animal illustrations that are fun to color!
I am currently working on a few different books, and one of them is a wordless kids' book. It's challenging to create a book without words because the illustrations need to tell the complete story. It's a fun challenge, and I am enjoying the process.
Why MiMoArt?
Quite simply, my MiMo comes from the first two letters of my name: Mike Mooney. I think you can figure out why I added art to the end of MiMo. :)
Cheers!
