Welcome back to the next section of my wordless picture book journey. For new readers who might not yet be familiar with The Positive Puppy wordless story, here is a quick recap of where we left off.
Puppy just lost his new friend Alien as he went back to his own planet. Alien left Puppy with a gift, a new balloon. Puppy, sitting in tears and deeply saddened by the loss of his new and only friend. He couldn't believe that Alien just left after all they had been through. Puppy knew what he had to do. He could sit there and be unhappy or he could get up and continue on his journey. After all, he started this journey all by himself so, he knows he can continue on all by himself.

Welcome back to the wild adventurous wordless story: The Positive Puppy. It's my first wordless kids' book and I am having a lot of fun creating it! Anyways, enough about me, let's get to the story!
The story of Puppy and Alien continues with balloons! Yes, who doesn't love a balloon?? Alien buys a balloon and gives it to Puppy because......... Wordless Picture Book: Where there is smoke...Little late this week but better late than never right? right?
Last week Puppy and Alien were continuing their journey, walking, walking, and walking. Where are they walking toward or to? You are about to find out here. They stumble across a couple of homes. The smoke is billowing out of the chimney and we now have some signs of life. Yay! :) But then they discover something very peculiar. Wordless Picture Book- Failure and StruggleAs promised here is the next four drawings from my digital wordless picture book that I have been working on and posting the images daily on Instagram. Check out the story over there @madmoone.
In most journeys people encounter struggle. The surprising thing is that Puppy was not the one struggling to continue on his journey; Alien was the one who was having trouble moving forward. Wordless Kids Book- The Journey WalkerI have really been enjoying the process of creating a wordless picture book. It has to be very methodical and mapped out because there are no words in this book and in order to tell the story, I need to make sure each image is in the correct place.
If you haven't been following along on Instagram @madmoone, I will update you here. In the last blog post, Puppy has been lost, walking by himself on his own journey. Searching for the unknown and looking forward to his next adventure. Finally after weeks of walking, he meets a strange being. Wordless Picture Book: Puppy Meets AlienThis is a new experience and adventure for me. Creating a kids book with out words. A wordless picture book seems easy enough right? I mean, I have been drawing my entire life so this should be a snap.
The truth is, creating a picture book without words can be difficult if you don't map out the story and provide the "reader" all the necessary images to complete the story. A picture is worth a thousand words, if illustrated correctly. Here is the next set of images in my digital wordless kids book. My First Wordless Picture BookI have been working on a wordless picture book over the past few weeks and the inspiration for the story came while I was diligently working away in the studio drawing. So, there I was, sketching away like a mad artist without any intentions or plans on creating a story. I then focused on a couple of characters I really liked from my sketchbook and started to draw them again, and again, and again.
Over the past year I have been working on two other kids books. One book is about health and healthy eating and the other is about being creative and using your imagination. I have also been toying with the idea of creating a wordless picture book and one thing lead to another and I started creating some more art. Randomly a few weeks ago I had an "a-ha" moment and I started putting the pieces together and created a rough outline of the story. It's funny how things happen and how this story without any words at all came together. Here is the first drawing of my new story and kids book. Animal Art- Puppy vs AlienHere's a painting I finished last year called Puppy vs Alien. I am sure you've had this conversation amongst friends and family right? You know the question I am talking about, it's the age old question about who will win in a fight of Puppy vs Alien?
No? You haven't had that conversation? Oh and I am suppose to be the weird one here? You're right I am and this is my magical mind! I will take you to places you never thought existed, at least that's my plan any way. Here is the painting in all it's glory.... Illustrations For A Picture Book in the FutureRecently I have been working on my next children's book. As an artist, visions of what the art for the picture book will look like comes to me easy. Ideas and concepts for new books also come easy to me in a similar manner; I have lots of ideas! However, actually writing the stories and flushing out my ideas usually takes up more of my time. I can flush out an idea and write out a concept, but it doesn't always read or flow well. I currently have a few picture book ideas that I am working on. The great think about being creative and having all these ideas is deciding what happens and also creating the artwork as well. I see how the illustrations are going to look in my mind and it gets me really excited to write. Here are some drawings that I finished using watercolors in preparation for upcoming kids books. A Quick Comic Strip About RelationshipsHere's a drawing I created the other day. Although this isn't setup in true comic strip form, I think you get the idea. Instead of using multiple frames, I am working with one frame.
This is a classic example of what you can expect moving forward. Last week I turned to my lovely wife and said, "I need a massage." Her caring reply, "that's out of your tax bracket"; was quite humorous and another reason why I love her. See the drawing now... |
